Prof. Hyeyoung Choi
 

Hyeyoung Choi, the director of Landscape and Urban Design Lab, is an assistant professor in the Department of Built Environment at Sungkyunkwan University. She earned Bachelor degree from Seoul National University, Master degree from University of Pennsylvania, and currently the Candidate of PhD from Seoul National University.  Before joining SKKU, she has educated and trained as a landscape architect in Korea and the U.S., registered landscape architect in Pennsylvania State. She has over ten years experience designing and managing landscape projects at a variety of scales. She served as a senior landscape designer at EDAW/AECOM where She has worked various private and public projects, including residential garden design, city parks (ranging from small pocket-parks to large riverfront and central urban parks), and urban and regional scale residential and resort projects. She has worked on projects receiving renowned design awards, including Yeouido Riverfront Park Master Plan and Chungnam Government Complex. At West 8, she utilized her diverse experience on large urban scale projects like the 180-acre Governors Island Park and Public Space and 243ha Yongsan Park, especially she led a team of designers during the International Competition for the Master Plan of Yongsan Park, which West 8 won.

 

She sees opportunities in every project - large or small, commercial or public, residential or institutional - and brings an innovative design approach to her work. She also brings exceptional design, management skills, and construction expertise to her work and plays a key role in multidisciplinary consultant teams throughout the design process.
